Meet Diane Cameron Elam

My name is Diane Cameron and I reside in Atlanta, Georgia. I received a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science and a Masters of Science in Environmental Policy and Management. As the Director of Green Earth Environmental Theater, my goal is to create theatrical productions that address the need for Eco friendly performing art works to educate inform and entertain on green initiatives.

UPCOMING

TRASH TAWKIN PLAY SUMMARY: An entertaining musical on recycling and good earth stewardship. The characters are the recyclable hopefuls who are the tossed aside trash and live at a city landfill. The trash has personalities, the four main characters being; a soda can; an empty milk carton; crumpled newspaper and a broken hand mirror. The 4 main characters sing, dance & emote their desire to be a useful part of society again through recycling. Imagine being tossed aside and considered useless. Imagine having so much more to give. Imagine your dreams of being "born again" become reality. This whimsical musical play addresses the realism of recycling thru the eyes of the "trash". They talk; they sing and dance the message of the need to recycle from an interpersonal and emotional perspective.
There is an increasing need for education that raises awareness of the need for environmental stewardship especially in an era where climate change and global warming truths and scientific evidence are being attacked and denied. I believe in the power of the Arts to create images and etch melodies which deliver the green message in a practical and entertaining manner. My goal is to create theatrical productions that address the need for environmental education that forges a partnership to educate and inspire personal responsibility to develop green consciousness.

AUDITION NEWS I have joined the database for Extras Casting in Atlanta and will post all audition information and opportunities for our group. I would be so proud to look up one day and see any of my students have made it to the big screen, the music industry or the world of theater.

Green Earth Theater can be categorized by many names, ecological theater or Eco-theater, sustainable theater, environmental theater or even recycled theater. Each term can refer to either the practice of producing plays that educate and promote ecology, or it can refer to sustainable and ecological practices that go into the making, of any production. When I began this project, my hope was that the arts and the ecology would forge a partnership to educate and inspire personal responsibility to develop green consciousness.

As anyone who has opted for sustainability in theater can attest—there are a few hurdles. One of the difficulties is that many of the common practices for being ‘green’ still come at a price for the environment. What I would like achieve on this site is how to make theater that is good for the environment--or sustainable theater is educationally entertaining and informative at the same time.

The current collection represents an ongoing series of cultural offerings I hope will be a successful brand of Theater Edutainment. Furthermore, that it will serve to be a resource center for schools, churches, community centers, youth organization and other Eco's friendly organization looking for a creative way to promote green living, a healthier environment and enlightenment theater for this generation of earth minded citizens. Our crew will be active in performing events for Arbor Day, Earth Day or any Keep Cities Beautiful celebration.

Just to name a few, Diane is an amazing actress/singer/composer/ humanitarian/mother. I specifically recommend her for any endeavor related to art/music/culture/entertainment/motivation/mentoring.” I recently had the pleasure of working with Ms. Diane Cameron on her production of “The Good News”, featuring a cast from The Boys and Girls Club, where I am a board member and volunteer. Both ladies were the epitome of dedication, enthusiasm, professionalism, and patience. They fairly glowed with a love of both children and theatre in a way that was inspiring and infectious. The production required them to work with a range of ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities. They not only succeeded, but enchanted us all. I am very excited about their production company and look forward to working with them again in the future.

MARCH 25: Environmental Youth Play to Debut at Hilton Head Island Earth Day Celebration

Category: Breaking News
Production supports kickoff of the island wide residential recycling program
Grab your recycle bins and hurry over to Shelter Cove Community Park for the Earth Day Celebration on April 2, 2011. "Trash Tawkin" the Environmental Musical Theater Experience will present its premiere debut. The play is a delightful inside peek at the lives of four best friends, recyclable wannabees, who live at the city landfill. They are; Poppy, the bent soda can, MC, the plastic milk carton, Hannah, the broken had mirror and Newsie, the crumpled newspaper. The four emote, sing and dance and are joined by a supporting cast of discarded landfill mates; they act out their case to be recycled. Performances will be held at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The play is the brainchild of Atlanta playwright Diane Cameron, Creative Director for Green Earth Theater. "I wrote the play to give human attributes to garbage as a means to encourage recycling presented through the eyes of a whimsy, she says, writing a play where trash uses "humanlike" creative expression to deliver a message was by design. I want the audience to leave with the idea that being caretakers of the environment is something to be considered and acted on, pardon the pun."
Cameron is also an international recording artist, having an impressive body of work performed in Japan, West Africa, South Africa, the Caribbean, Canada and across the United States. Assisting Cameron is Tonya Smith, marketing assistant, and Michael Cameron, logistics director. Visit the Web site at http://greenearthenvironmentaltheatre.blogspot.com or call 678-480-8184.
